Jeter departs with one last RBI

Boston (AFP) - After a week packed with celebration and sentiment, iconic Yankees captain Derek Jeter played his last Major League Baseball game on Sunday, a contributor up to the last.
Honored by the Boston prior to the season finale between the bitter American League East rivals, Jeter played as designated hitter in the Yankees' 9-5 victory over the Red Sox.
In his first at-bat he smacked a line drive off Boston starting pitcher Clay Buchholz in the first inning, but it was straight to shortstop Jemile Weeks.
In the third frame, with a runner on third, Jeter chopped a ball toward third and legged out the infield single that scored Japan's Ichiro Suzuki.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi motioned toward Jeter at first to see if he wanted to exit for a pinch runner, and the Yankees captain jogged off the field for the last time.
"It's the end of an era," Girardi had said before the game.
As he departed, Jeter received a thunderous ovation from Boston fans.
Many had thought he might skip the final three games of the season in Boston, after delivering the winning single for a storybookd finish to his emotional last home game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.
But Jeter said he wanted to play, in deference to Boston fans and the storied rivalry between the teams.
The Red Sox thanked him with a thirty-minute pre-game ceremony that included such Red Sox greats as Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, Luis Tiant, Jason Varitek and Tim Wakefield.
A trio of Boston legends from other sports -- Bobby Orr of the NHL's Bruins, Paul Pierce of the NBA's Celtics and Troy Brown of the NFL's Patriots -- also took part in the ceremony, in which the entire current Red Sox team came out of the dugout to shake hands with Jeter.
Jeter finished his 20-year career with 3,465 hits -- sixth on Major League Baseball's all-time list.
A five-time World Series champion and 14-time All-Star, he finishes his career as a .309 lifetime hitter in 2,747 games.

Awkward! Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader Roast Reporter for Not Seeing Their Film

his is awkward. An interview with comedians Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader about their film The Skeleton Twins went awry, after TV reporter Chris Parente mistakenly asked a question that has nothing to do with the movie.
"Kristen, I am thinking on this program of doing the news completely full-frontal, completely nude," the Denver-based journalist said before asking, "Do you recommend that, and do you have advice for going nude?"
Parente tries to play off the embarrassing moment, but fails to redeem himself, while Wiig and Hader rib him for the gaffe. None of the reporter's questions are relevant to The Skeleton Twins, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini Rear-Ended by Drunk Driver

Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini were struck by a drunk driver in a hit-and-run accident in California on Saturday. And they were in Jennifer Lopez's new car! (A new Fiat, I assume.)
Page Six reports Remini was driving the car, with Jennifer Lopez in the passenger's seat and her two kids in the backseat. They were hit by a drunk driver in a pick-up truck who quickly sped away, but was caught by cops in Malibu after they got his description from Lopez and Remini.
Jennifer Lopez wrote about the incident in a post on Instagram:

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West got another bad reception in Paris ... arriving late to a fashion show where a couple of hecklers booed them.

Kim -- who FYI wore nothing underneath her blazer -- and Kanye showed up at the Lanvin fashion show after it started ... and as they walked to the front-row, several dudes staring booing them.

Kanye gets defensive -- dropping the name of Alber, the designer throwing the shindig -- saying he wanted to see them ... implying they were only late because they were backstage talking to the designer.

Did we mention Kim's boobs?

George Clooney created a deliciously diabolical security plan to keep guests from giving the media pictures of the wedding ... and even though he said the issue was hackers ... it's clear the REAL concern was that he didn't completely trust all the guests.

TMZ knows the ground rules for wedding night, requiring ALL guests:

-- Leave your cellphone in your hotel room
-- If you think you may need your phone, then bring it ... but leave it at a kiosk near the entrance
-- All guests will be provided a burner phone with a code, which serves as a ticket to enter
-- All guests will also receive a camera to take pics as they please
-- HERE'S THE CATCH ... The camera has a code that allows George's people to access the photos.  So if Amal's 3rd cousin were to give TMZ a pic of the nuptials, George could find the matching phone pic and skewer the cuz.

The guests were all told the reason for the security measures was because of all the hackers who have been in the news recently.  But here's the thing.  If it's hackers the wedding party were interested in ... what's the point of tracking down the particular camera?

Clearly -- and reasonably -- George and company know ... friendships and blood relations only go so far.

DAZZ LETELLIER New single "I Love me more" promotional pictures leaves us in shock

Andlazz Inc., September 28, 2014, New York, NY. With a very different style of singing and composing, as many have already expressed both in her presentations and her recordings, DAZZ LETELLIER again leaves us in shock after the release of several promotional pictures of her latest video "I love me more." "I love me more" is the latest musical creation of this talented artist who now presents us with some beautiful melodies about the harsh reality of domestic violence, another social issue that the artist has incorporated in her repertoire, as areWar Soldier,” “Behind the Bars,” “”When Angels Talk, and many more.

"I love me more" has remained in the top 10 chart for independent music for six consecutive weeks without it being released officially at digital stores, it already has reached more than 25,000 plays as a singer /songwriter.
Listen to "I love me more:”

Why the song “I love me more?”
Dazz: If a person cannot speak due to fear ....... I hope they can at least hear me. I recently received a message from two fans telling me that “I love me more” was their life story and they thanked me for writing it. These short sentences touched the finest fibers of my soul, and my heart wanted to jump out of my chest, I thought ... somewhere in the world two people are taking their first steps to love themselves much more. I was full of joy because I felt that I was able to help them in some way.
“I love me more” because true love does not hurt. People are wrong to believe that when we mention the word violence, we are referring only to physical abuse toward another individual. Emotional abuse is the same or worse than physical abuse, and what about violence against animals? And they can’t even speak. GOD has given me a special talent just as he gives all his children. I am a firm believer that music is not just created for dancing, laughing or to mourn, it  is also an easy way to give positive, educational and helpful information to all who hear it. Thus, I love me more.
How about those photos and your images?

Dazz:  It is difficult to look at the pictures, even for someone like me. Neither my family nor my followers where very happy with the images. The point is not really to draw attention, but then again that is the point, to get attention. We cannot turn our backs to this serious issue, thank GOD this is not my specific situation, but unfortunately many people end up like the pictures in real life.

As for the pictures, violence does not discriminate against any social status, gender, religion, race, etc.... The pictures bring awareness to people, I've never been afraid of any external change, because my essence is always the same and never changes.
“I would have achieved my main purpose musically, when people can think and have fun at the same time”.  Dazz

Jay Z, Beyonce take stage at Global Citizen fest

NEW YORK (AP) — Jay Z is in a global state of mind: The rap star performed Saturday for thousands in New York's Central Park and encouraged the crowd to help end world poverty.
Jay Z headlined the Global Citizen Festival on the Great Lawn, where Beyonce surprised the audience by performing with her husband.
He told the crowd of 60,000 — many of whom earned free tickets by volunteering — to support the Global Citizen Festival's effort to end poverty by 2030.
"We out here for a good cause," he said onstage. "I want to thank everybody out here for this good movement."
Dressed in all black, Jay Z wore a hoodie with the Global Citizen Festival's logo and the names of other headliners, including Carrie Underwood, The Roots, Alicia Keys, Tiesto, fun. and No Doubt, who brought out special guest Sting to perform "Message In a Bottle," a crowd favorite.
Jay Z's electrifying set opened with audio from Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" and Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind." The Brooklyn-born rapper then went into his own New York anthem, "Empire State of Mind," and followed it with his rich catalog of hits, from "Big Pimpin" to "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" to "99 Problems."
He left the stage, but moments later the crowd roared as Beyonce entered alongside her husband. She sang the choruses from his songs "Holy Grail" — where she danced excitedly — and "Forever Young" as the audience cheered and sang along.
The concert marked another New York venue that Jay Z — hip-hop's most powerful voice — has performed in. He has had numerous sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden, where he held a Sept. 11 benefit show in 2009, and he is one of a few rap acts to perform at Carnegie Hall. He opened the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with eight consecutive shows in 2012.
No Doubt's set included hits such as "Don't Speak" and "Hey Baby," while a pregnant Underwood belted during "Before He Cheats" and "Jesus Take the Wheel," where she was misty-eyed.
The Global Citizen Festival coincides with the U.N. General Assembly meeting. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon were among the world leaders who attended in support of the anti-poverty campaign.
Hugh Jackman hosted the third annual event, which also featured Olivia Wilde and Jessica Alba and aired on MSNBC. Stevie Wonder headlined the festival last year, and Neil Young and Foo Fighters were among the lineup it its inaugural year.

Clooney marries Amal Alamuddin in star-studded Venice bash

Venice (AFP) - Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney and Lebanese-British lawyer Amal Alamuddin married in Venice on Saturday before partying the night away with their A-list friends in one of the most high-profile celebrity weddings in years.
"George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin were married today (September 27) in a private ceremony in Venice, Italy," Clooney spokesman Stan Rosenfield said.
The announcement came as a surprise as the pair were not expected to officially tie the knot until Monday, though they are still tipped for a civil ceremony at the town hall to officialise the marriage under Italian law.
Earlier in the evening, a euphoric-looking Clooney swept up Venice's Grand Canal to attend his wedding party, accompanied by some 20 boatloads of paparazzi and the screams of adoring fans.
Hundreds of camera flashes lit the water around him as the world's most eligible bachelor prepared to break hearts across the world and exchange vows with his beautiful dark-haired fiancee.
The silver-haired actor and director, looking dashing in an Armani tux, grinned and rubbed his hands in glee as he entered the seven-star Aman hotel's grand entrance to celebrate with Hollywood chums who have flown in from across the globe for the party.
Lebanese-born Alamuddin, who stayed out of sight inside the hotel, looked dazzling in a gown by red-carpet maestro Oscar de la Renta, according to a source.
Matt Damon, Bono, Bill Murray, Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber -- rumoured to be Clooney's best man -- glided up the canal ahead of the groom with dozens of other guests, waving to the crowds and showing off snazzy Versace, Gucci and Prada gowns.
Singing gondoliers, who had spent the day showing off the romantic candle-lit resort to snap-happy tourists, were swept aside in their wake as the world's most famous waterway erupted with excitement.
Generous George was even thought to have invited his Venetian taxi driver Alessandro Greco along, after he was pictured in a tux hopping out of his boat and entering the Aman with other guests.
Clooney's 36-year-old bride had been snapped Friday evening in a red gown at a soiree with close friends including actress Ellen Barkin -- who threw the human rights lawyer a hen party several weeks ago.
In a Cinderella moment, Alamuddin lost her shoe after the stiletto heel got caught in a gap in the slatted floor in front of the hotel, but she recovered in style.
- Lobster, wild mushrooms, figs -
Tantalising details have emerged of the wedding dinner, with stars reportedly to dine on lobster, wild mushrooms and figs at a banquet fit for the gods.
Clooney said goodbye to bachelorhood Friday night with a stag party at his favourite restaurant, just hours after sweeping into the floating city with Amal aboard a water taxi dubbed "Amore".
After shaking off the paparazzi, Clooney and his chums headed to Da Ivo near Saint Mark's Square for the venue's prized Venetian and Tuscan delicacies.
The feasting continued Saturday evening in the garden of the 450-year-old Palazzo Papadopoli, where guests were met with lashings of bubbly and canapes, including polenta with wild mushrooms and prosciutto ham with figs, according to a source.
The sumptuous five-course dinner was expected to include lemon risotto with lobster and a sea bass main -- as well as a wedding cake.
- 'When I fall in love' -
The 53-year-old actor had 100 cases of his own tequila label flown in for his wedding and cracked open bottles of the award-winning tipple at the party after handing one over to thirsty-looking paparazzi loitering outside his hotel earlier in the day.
The Aman's restaurant was transformed into a nightclub where they were set to dance the night away, with Clooney dedicating the song "When I fall in Love" to Alamuddin.
A string orchestra and jazz trio are also expected to perform a number of songs, including the uber-romantic "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", a ballad made famous by The Platters in 1958.
Clooney, who has owned a home in northern Italy for years, was married once before, to "Mad Men" actress Talia Balsam, but the pair split in 1993, just before his breakout role in "ER" propelled him to the status of global sex symbol.
Alamuddin's rights work has involved representing Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
She moved to Britain as a three-year-old.

RI Filmmakers Chad & Michelle Verdi Head to New York to Join Oscar Winning Director Martin Scorsese for the Premiere of 'A 50 Year Argument'

NEW YORK and POINT ROBERTS, Washington, September 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Investorideas.com (http://www.investorideas.com ) a global news source covering leading sectors issues an entertainment update on movie producer Chad A. Verdi from Rhode Island.
It was reported to Investor Ideas that Rhode Island filmmakers Chad & Michelle Verdi will be joining Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese and his team in NY for the premiere of "The New York Review of Books: A 50 YEAR ARGUMENT" on September 28th. The Verdi's are Executive Producers of the film. HBO DOCUMENTARY FILMS will present the film along with SIKELIA productions in association with Verdi Productions.
The documentary filmed by Martin Scorsese & David Tedeschi tells the story of the papers found over fifty years ago during the New York City newspaper strike of 1963.
America's leading journal of ideas has pursued its goal with rigor, a unique style and more than its share of controversy. 'The New York Review of Books: A 50 Year Argument', directed by acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese and his longtime documentary collaborator David Tedeschi, rides the waves of literary, political and cultural history in much the same way as the paper itself.
Provocative, idiosyncratic and incendiary, the film weaves rarely seen archival material, contributor interviews and excerpts from writings by such icons as James Baldwin, Gore Vidal, and Joan Didion, with original verité footage filmed in the Review's West Village office.
These scenes reflect the humming, restless energy of a magazine that, heading into its second half-century, still feels as vital as its indefatigable founding editor, Robert Silvers.
Confrontation and intelligent argument are in its DNA, as illustrated in the documentary by the skirmish between Vidal and Norman Mailer over women's liberation, Mary McCarthy's jeremiad against American hegemony in Vietnam, Mark Danner's investigation into the use of enhanced interrogation during the Iraq war, and Michael Greenberg's analysis of the Occupy movement. Joan Didion's reading from her quietly furious explication of the 1989 Central Park Jogger Case, filmed at the recent fiftieth anniversary event at New York's Town Hall, exemplifies the film's approach: honor the writers, the writing, and the paper's determination to reveal the truth in all its complexity.
The film captures the power of ideas in shaping history. "Magazines don't change the world," says contributor Avishai Margalit, "but they shape a certain kind of climate of ideas. Influence is like the knight in chess, one move straight and then diagonal. It doesn't go in straight lines." The film documents this extraordinary process, through the inimitable filmmaking style of Martin Scorsese.

Photo: Award winning producer Chad A. Verdi stated, "My wife Michelle and I are very excited about being involved in such a great project and look forward to the premiere this weekend." Verdi added, "This is one of many projects that we will executive produce with Mr. Scorsese and his producing partner Emma Koskoff, over the next few years."
